Dehradun: The controversy involving the Director of Elementary Education has taken a new turn, with Raipur MLA Umesh Sharma Kau publicly expressing regret over the incident. He issued a written statement during a programme held at the BJP Metropolitan Office in Dehradun on Wednesday. The event was attended by Metropolitan President Siddharth Agarwal and a large number of supporters.
Referring to the February 21 incident at the Education Directorate in Raipur, the MLA said he had visited the office regarding the naming of a school in his constituency. The request, he said, came from a family that had donated around 1.5 bighas of land for the school. The family had sought to name the school after the late Padam Singh Rawat, and the proposal had been pending for a long time. In his statement, Kau said the discussion with officials became tense during the meeting. As a public representative, he tried to calm the situation, but an unintended incident occurred in the process. He expressed regret and clarified that he had no intention of disrespecting anyone. He added that he has always received cooperation from officials and employees in public welfare matters and has shown them due respect. Calling the episode personally distressing, he extended an apology to the concerned parties. He also said that the state government, led by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, remains committed to protecting the interests of officials and employees and maintaining law and order. He appealed to all sides to maintain restraint and resolve issues through dialogue.
