A clash between two groups broke out during a birthday celebration at Grew Café near Chandrabani Chowk, under Patel Nagar police station limits. A young woman sustained a head injury in the incident. Police have clarified that rumours circulating on social media about an attack with a sharp weapon are misleading, as the medical report does not support such claims.
According to police, on the night of February 4, information was received about a dispute at Grew Café. A police team immediately reached the spot. Preliminary investigation revealed that Mahi, daughter of Harish Jetli and resident of Gandhigram, Gurudwara Road, Dehradun, had gone to the café with her friends to celebrate a birthday. All of them were allegedly under the influence of alcohol.
During the party, an argument broke out inside the café with the other group, including Ayush Rawat and his associates, over a minor issue. The altercation later escalated into a physical fight outside the café on the road.
During the scuffle, Mahi sustained a head injury and was taken to Doon Hospital for medical examination. Doctors reported that the injury was caused by a hard and blunt object. The medical report does not indicate any injury caused by a sharp weapon. The report also mentions consumption of alcohol by the injured woman.
Based on a complaint filed by the woman’s brother, Patel Nagar police have registered Case No. 103/26 under Sections 118(1) and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Ayush Rawat and others. Police teams are conducting raids at the residences and possible hideouts of the named accused.
Police have appealed to the public not to believe or circulate unverified information on social media, stating that claims of a chopper attack are baseless and contrary to the medical evidence
