Two youths were found dead under suspicious circumstances at two different locations in the Kotdwar municipal area on Thursday, triggering shock and grief across the town. Police have taken both bodies into custody, conducted postmortem examinations, and handed them over to the families.
According to information received, the first incident occurred in the Lalpur area of Kotdwar. Deepanshu Rawat (19), son of Shailendra Rawat, was found dead under suspicious circumstances on Thursday morning. Family members said that Deepanshu had recently appeared for the JEE (Junior Engineer) examination. He was reportedly under severe mental stress after the answer key released on Wednesday showed lower-than-expected marks.
When Deepanshu did not come out of his room for a long time on Thursday morning, family members became suspicious. Upon checking the room, they found him hanging from a window with the help of a cloth. He was immediately rushed to the Base Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
The second incident involved Dinesh Kumar (19), son of Sarvesh Kumar, a resident of Bijaheri village under Nagina tehsil in Bijnor district, Uttar Pradesh. Dinesh was living in a rented room in Kotdwar with his elder brother and worked as a plumber.
Police said Dinesh was found hanging from a ceiling fan hook in his room. He was promptly taken to the Base Hospital by family members, but doctors declared him brought dead.
Police have completed the inquest proceedings in both cases and sent the bodies for postmortem examination. After the postmortem, the bodies were handed over to the respective families.
According to the police, investigations are underway in both cases, and no suicide note has been recovered so far. The back-to-back incidents have cast a pall of gloom over the Kotdwar municipal area, leaving both families devastated
