The strict enforcement drive of the Senior Superintendent of Police, Dehradun, continues to yield results as Doon Police have scored another major success against street crime. Police of Nehru Colony police station arrested an accused involved in a chain snatching incident targeting an elderly woman and recovered the stolen gold chain along with the motorcycle used in the crime.
According to police, on February 02, 2026, the complainant Malmati Rana, wife of late Chand Singh Rana, resident of Lane No. 1, Aniket Vihar, Doon University Road, Dehradun, reported that an unknown motorcycle-borne person snatched the gold chain from her neck near Shivam Dairy on Doon University Road and fled the spot. Following the complaint, FIR No. 42/26 under Section 304(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at Nehru Colony police station.
Considering the seriousness of the incident, the Senior Superintendent of Police, Dehradun, directed immediate action and constituted a special police team for the detection of the case. The team analyzed CCTV footage from the surrounding areas, activated the informer network, and conducted verification of known offenders previously involved in chain snatching cases.
As a result of swift and sustained efforts, the police team arrested the accused during routine checking near Mothrowala Bridge on February 04, 2026. The stolen chain and the motorcycle used in the commission of the crime were recovered from his possession.
During interrogation, the accused confessed that he is a drug addict and committed the crime along with his associates to fulfill his addiction-related needs. He was planning to sell the stolen chain, but was apprehended before he could do so. The accused has a prior criminal record and has earlier been jailed in a narcotics trafficking case. Efforts are underway to trace and arrest his accomplices.
