CM Dhami Interacts with Writers, Emphasises Role of Literature in Uttarakhand’s Development
Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Sunday interacted with senior writers and litterateurs from across the state at the Mukhya Sevak Sadan located at the Chief Minister’s Camp Office in Dehradun. During the programme, the authors presented copies of their self-authored books to the Chief Minister, who met each participant personally and discussed their literary contributions and ongoing work.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that writers are not only the mirror of society but also its guiding force. He emphasised that litterateurs have a vital role in Uttarakhand’s overall development, preservation of its rich cultural heritage, and promotion of social awareness. He added that the state government is committed to creating a vibrant literary environment and encouraging writers.
Dhami noted that Devbhoomi Uttarakhand has been the land of sages, including Maharishi Ved Vyas, and has produced several eminent writers who have enriched Indian literature. He stressed the need for collective efforts to cultivate a culture of reading and writing among the younger generation.
The Chief Minister said the Uttarakhand Bhasha Sansthan is engaged in collecting, preserving and publishing the state’s old, scattered and unpublished literary works. He also informed that the government is working on establishing two “Literary Villages” to promote Uttarakhand as a major destination for literary tourism. To honour literary excellence, the state introduced the “Uttarakhand Sahitya Gaurav Samman” in 2022 and the “Long-Term Literary Service Award” in 2025.
