Dehradun (RNS): Police have made significant progress in the high-profile Vikram Sharma murder case that took place on Rajpur Road in the capital. Investigators have identified the shooters involved and gathered key leads about their possible hideouts. Officials claim the accused will soon be arrested and the case fully cracked.
The incident occurred on Friday morning near Silver City Mall on Rajpur Road. As Vikram Sharma stepped out of a gym, assailants opened indiscriminate fire. Despite carrying a licensed pistol, Sharma had no chance to react and died on the spot. The broad daylight killing triggered panic in the area.
Police investigation suggests the murder was meticulously planned. The shooters had been tracking Sharma’s movements for several days and studying his routine. Initial findings indicate the attackers were professional criminals hired from outside the state.
According to police, the shooters flew from Jharkhand to Dehradun and later rented a bike and a scooter from Haridwar. The bike was taken on Thursday, while the scooter was rented early Friday morning around 4 am.
The scooter was rented under the name “Akash” using a Jharkhand address. Shockingly, the same Aadhaar card was used to rent both vehicles from a shop near Haridwar railway station.
Police said the accused are residents of Wagbera in Jamshedpur. They have been identified as Akash and Ashutosh. Both reportedly have criminal records, including attempted murder and extortion-related firing cases. A police team has already visited Haridwar and questioned vehicle renters to gather crucial evidence.
The daylight killing has once again raised concerns over law and order in the state. With a rise in violent incidents in the capital, pressure is mounting on police to ensure swift arrests.
Officials say teams are working round the clock using surveillance and technical evidence, and a major breakthrough is expected soon.
