Dehradun,(RNS). February 26, 2026:
The district police administration has adopted a firm stance on crime control and law and order. During the monthly crime review meeting held at the Police Lines in Dehradun, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) made it clear that negligence or indifference towards official duties will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
All gazetted officers and Station House Officers (SHOs) of the district attended the meeting. The SSP warned that any laxity would invite departmental action against the concerned personnel, and accountability would also be fixed on the respective SHO and supervisory officer.
In view of the ongoing month of Ramadan and the upcoming Holi festival, all SHOs have been directed to convene Peace Committee meetings in their respective areas. Special vigilance has been ordered in mixed-population and sensitive areas, keeping in mind past disputes to ensure adequate security arrangements.
Under the ongoing “Operation Crackdown,” officers were instructed to intensify the tenant and outsider verification drive across the district. Mandatory verification in high-rise buildings, residential societies, and posh localities has been emphasized. Strict legal action will be taken against suspicious individuals found during the drive. The SSP directed officers to ensure prompt and time-bound investigation in cases of murder and other heinous crimes. Timely collection of evidence and filing of charge sheets in court were stressed, along with strong prosecution to secure stringent punishment for offenders. The Chief Fire Officer has been instructed to conduct mandatory fire audits of institutions and warehouses, especially those located in densely populated areas. Action will be taken against establishments that fail to comply. In view of the upcoming Kumbh-related preparations, special fire safety reviews have also been directed in Rishikesh and other sensitive locations.
SHOs have been directed to form special teams for the arrest of wanted and rewarded criminals. Surveillance and all available technical resources are to be utilized to ensure their apprehension. Strict action under the Gangster Act has been ordered against individuals involved in cow slaughter, drug trafficking, and other organized crimes. Illegal properties acquired through criminal activities will be identified and seized as per law. Considering the ongoing board examinations, SHOs have been directed to ensure that loudspeakers and DJs at religious places and public events operate strictly within prescribed norms and time limits.
During peak traffic hours and school timings, police visibility is to be increased at major roads, intersections, and crowded places. Continuous checking drives at inter-district and inter-state checkpoints have also been mandated. Any negligence in checking operations will result in accountability being fixed on the concerned SHO and Circle Officer. The strong directives issued in the meeting signal a zero-tolerance approach toward crime and administrative laxity in the district.
