Rudraprayag: 07 MARCH 2026(RNS).
A shocking incident has come to light from the Tilwara area of Rudraprayag district in Uttarakhand, where the decomposed bodies of a woman of Nepali origin and her nine-year-old son were recovered from a rented room. Police have begun an investigation treating the case as a suspected murder, while the woman’s husband has been reported missing since the incident.
According to police, Deepak Bahadur, a Nepali national, had been living in a rented room for over five years near the Electricity Colony in the Tilwara–Sumadi area along with his wife Kamla Shahi (34) and their son Roshan Singh (9). It is reported that the room had remained locked for more than a week.
When the landlord recently went towards the room, he noticed a strong foul smell coming from inside. Suspecting something unusual, he immediately informed the police. Upon receiving the information, a police team reached the spot. The room was locked from the outside, and the police had to break open the door to enter.
Inside, they found the bodies of the woman and her son lying in a highly decomposed state. The disturbing scene left people present at the spot shocked.
During the preliminary investigation, police suspected that the mother and son might have been murdered. The woman’s husband, Deepak Bahadur, has been missing since the incident, which has further raised suspicion against him.
Station House Officer Suresh Chandra Baluni said that a case of murder has been registered at Rudraprayag Kotwali and efforts are underway to trace the missing accused. The police have sent both bodies to the district hospital for post-mortem examination.
Police officials said the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the post-mortem report is received, following which further legal action will be taken.
