Historic Jhanda Mela Begins with Hoisting of Jhande Ji at Darbar Sahib

The historic Jhanda Mela commenced with great religious fervor on Sunday with the ceremonial hoisting of Jhande Ji at the revered Shri Guru Ram Rai Darbar Sahib. Thousands of devotees from Uttarakhand as well as Delhi, Chandigarh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, along with devotees from abroad, gathered to witness this memorable and sacred occasion.
At 4:12 PM on Sunday, the 94-foot-tall Jhande Ji was ceremonially hoisted under the guidance of the Sajjadanashin of Darbar Sahib, Shri Mahant Devendra Das Maharaj, following traditional rituals. As soon as the sacred flag was raised, the entire atmosphere echoed with chants in praise of Guru Maharaj and Jhande Ji. Devotees danced to the beats of drums and many were seen overwhelmed with emotion during the spiritual moment. Several groups of devotees who had arrived from different states will offer prayers at Darbar Sahib and return to their hometowns later in the evening.
Meanwhile, a grand Nagar Parikrama (religious procession) will be taken out on Tuesday under the leadership of Shri Mahant Devendra Das Maharaj. The arrangements for the procession have been completed by the Darbar Sahib administration and the Shri Jhanda Ji Mela Organising Committee.
