On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Indian Army’s Congo Brigade (19 Sikh Regiment / Vijay Battalion) organised a voluntary blood donation camp and a women’s health check-up camp at Gorkha Hall, Almora Cantonment. Military personnel as well as local residents actively participated in the initiative.
The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Chandra Prakash Bhaishoda, Principal of Government Medical College Almora, and under the supervision of Dr. Anil Pandey. The Blood Bank team of the medical college worked in coordination with Army officials to manage the arrangements for the camp. During the camp, 20 units of blood were collected, while 38 women underwent free haemoglobin and blood group testing as part of the Women’s Day health initiative. The medical team also created awareness among women about the importance of health, nutrition and regular medical check-ups. Speaking on the occasion, Major Dr. Nikhil Bains highlighted the importance of blood donation and said that donating blood can help save lives and strengthen the spirit of social service in society. He also encouraged youth and women to participate actively in such humanitarian activities. All voluntary blood donors were honoured with mementos and certificates by the Blood Bank team in recognition of their contribution. At the end of the programme, the Commanding Officer of Vijay Battalion expressed gratitude to the civil administration and the medical team for their support. Army officers, members of the medical college team and local residents were present during the event.
