In view of the forecast of severe weather conditions, including thunderstorms, strong winds, and lightning, the State Emergency Operations Centre has issued necessary guidelines to all districts, directing them to ensure preparedness and vigilance.
Around 9:30 AM on Sunday, Dehradun witnessed a sudden change in weather. Heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning disrupted normal life. Strong winds along with intense showers brought traffic to a near standstill. Dense clouds darkened the sky, making the morning appear like evening.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for May 4 and 5 for several districts, including Dehradun, Tehri, Haridwar, Pauri, Nainital, Champawat, and Udham Singh Nagar. According to the department, these areas may experience thunderstorms with lightning, hailstorms, heavy to very heavy rainfall, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 km/h.
The administration has urged residents to stay indoors unless necessary and to take all safety precautions during adverse weather conditions. Farmers and people living in hilly regions have been specifically advised to remain alert.
